"Dreams are for mortals because they must die."

If “the Mayan god of Death being awoken in the middle of the Jazz Age” doesn’t already make you want to read this amazing tale, this might.

Moreno-García’s wonderful writing pulls you right in from the very first second, helping you feel as if you always knew what living your life in Mexico was like during the time and never stopping for a breath; the fantasy based on the Mayan mythology is absolutely wonderful and some of the most original I’ve read in a while; the setting and clothes are breath-taking and I feel like I can almost grasp everything with my hands and; lastly and most importantly: the characters are INCREDIBLE.

Casiopea is endearing, but also realistic in (sometimes) a frustrating way, and Hun-Kamé’s exploration of character is so fascinating. Let alone some other awe-inspiring characters you meet along the way that shall not be named!

I definitely recommend this dark fantasy to anyone looking for a thrilling adventure filled with fantasy.
